If your current strategy (or the one you think is at risk of being developed):
then you will probably already know that traditional strategy development processes are hopelessly outdated.
At Orange Squid, we know that in the rapidly changing world in which we all operate and exist, innovation is a critical success factor for every organisation – in every industry and marketplace. But for innovation to be effective it needs to be strategic – and equally, for strategies to be successful (in the modern world), they need to be innovative. Strategy and innovation are inextricably linked.
Strategy is holistic: you can’t separate strategic objectives from planned actions – or strategy development from strategy execution. Of course, you’ll find no shortage of consultants who continue to spread the myth that inseparable elements of strategy (such as development and execution) can be treated independently. However, the motivation of the consultants is primarily that if a strategy (which they help create) fails to meet the objectives it sets out to achieve, “execution” can be blamed! How can a strategy which fails to meaningfully address the requirements for execution, be a high-quality strategy? It can’t.
At Orange Squid, we work with you to help you develop a strategy which is embedded with innovation and which encompasses not only the strategic choices made and actions planned, but also the mechanisms which will ensure success – in the real world, with real people. We make strategy as relevant to the exec team as it is to employees in the grad program – and everyone in between. Astrid (Orange Squid Partner), our resident organisational psychologist plays a key role in strategy development activities and, as an organisational culture expert, ensures that the right drivers are in place and the blockers are removed.
We describe Orange Squid as a “Strategic Innovation Consultancy.” What on earth does that mean, you might ask?
Well, we are strategy specialists, no doubt about it. In fact Both Mark & Chris have extensive backgrounds in ‘traditional’ strategy and can often be found discussing Porter, Raynor, Mintzberg, Brandenburger & Nalebuff, Tushman & O’Reilly, the list goes on.
Yes, – they are really boring strategy nerds – but they do know what they are talking about! Mark is an Oxford Graduate (Strategy & Innovation) and also studied strategy at Harvard Business School before he started consulting on competitive strategy and Chris has worked in strategy on both the consulting and client sides of the equation (in large telcos and others, as well as being a Director at PwC).
But both Mark & Chris (along with most of the world’s leading experts in strategy) embrace the modern view that any strategy development process which is undertaken without a healthy dose of best-practice innovation injected into it, is doomed to result in the strategy becoming obsolete before it is even launched.
If you want a strategy that will take your organisation to the next level, feel free to contact Mark, Astrid, or Chris directly. We’ll even send you some great strategy tips which our clients love. Alternatively you can just make an enquiry via firstname.lastname@example.org.
